Water from a Copper Bottle

July 18, 2018

Ayurveda recommends storing water overnight in a copper jug or bottle and drinking 1-2 cups of this water during the day.  The water, stored in this way, is called ‘tamra jal’ literally translated as copper water.  Copper has electromagnetic energy called ‘prana shakti’ and this balances out all three of the doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

When the water is stored in the copper bottle overnight, a very small amount of copper ions are dissolved into the water, this is known as the oligodynamic effect, and has the ability to destroy a wide range of harmful microbes, moulds and fungi.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has noted that copper is the only solid material that kills bacteria and can help us from health risks.  Copper also changes the pH of the water, making it more alkaline, which helps to balance out the acidity that most of us have in our bodies.

But that’s not all… the benefits are numerous:

Digestive system

Copper water can flush out the stomach and digestive tract and help to detox the liver and kidneys.

Inflammation

As well as its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, copper is also well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, helping to relieve aches and pains from arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflamed joints

Fat breakdown

In addition to improving digestive function, copper water can also help your body break down fat and eliminate it as efficiently as possible.  It has been said that combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, drinking from a copper vessel can be a safe and all-natural way to maintain a healthy weight

Anti-aging properties

Copper water is loaded with anti-oxidants which help fight off free radicals and help to produce new skin cells – this all helps to decrease the appearance of fine lines

Supports the Thyrdoid Gland

Copper cannot be produced in the body and needs to be ingested.  Studies have shown that people with thyroid dysfunction generally suffer from low levels of copper, and a healthy level of copper is needed for healthy thyroid function. Drinking copper water, can therefore, help to top your copper levels up

Iron absorption

Copper can actually help the body to absorb iron

Brain function

The brain works by transmitting impulses from one neuron to another and these neurons are covered by the myelin sheath that acts like a conductor.  Copper helps in the synthesis of materials that are essential for the formation of these myelin sheaths

And so this is why you are served water from a copper bottle when you come for a treatment at Sacred Space Healing.
